Ruoyu (Roy) joined Dr. Menachem Elimelech’s group as a postdoctoral associate in October 2023. His research focuses on understanding fundamental transport phenomena in different membrane processes, including ion separation, gas separation, and pervaporation.

Before this, Ruoyu earned his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2023. During his Ph.D., he worked on diverse topics from thermodynamic analysis to membrane transport modeling. His Ph.D. dissertation, advised by Dr. Shihong Lin, was about understanding membrane-based ion separations like nanofiltration and electrodialysis with a specific focus on lithium extraction from brines.

Outside of work, Ruoyu enjoys playing basketball, watching sports and movies.
